At Colorado Coach Auto Body, we take vehicle sanitation seriously. The safety of our employees and customers is our top priority. As COVID-19 cases have started to rise, we have a responsibility to protect our community and prevent the spread. We’ve implemented a variety of measures to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19 and other diseases during the vehicle intake, repair, and delivery processes. Read on to learn more about what we’re doing to keep our community safe, and for tips on how to thoroughly clean and disinfect your vehicle.
Cleaning Tips for Vehicle Sanitation
Keeping your vehicle clean as you go out into the community can help prevent illness. Make sure that you are consistently cleaning your vehicle, especially when you have members outside of your household in your vehicle. Ensure you both wear a mask, and keep hand sanitizer in your vehicle. Many bacteria and viruses, including COVID-19 can live on certain surfaces for up to 72 hours. That’s why it’s essential to keep your hands clean and to use the hand sanitizer each time you or others enter your vehicle.
When cleaning your car, consider using isopropyl or ethyl alcohol, or a diluted bleach solution on approved surfaces. Isopropyl alcohol or ethyl alcohol (70%) are powerful disinfectants that work great in cleaning your vehicle interior in most cases. These materials are known for removing stains on interior vehicle surfaces but can cause issues on leather. Focus instead on high touch areas of your car including the steering wheel, armrests, ventilation grilles, cup holders, handles, doors, console, and more. When cleaning, we recommend using a microfiber cloth. These cloths trap dust and dirt, and will not scratch your surfaces during the cleaning process.
Sanitation Practices at Colorado Coach Auto Body
It’s true that during a normal vehicle repair process, many people come into contact with your vehicle. From vehicle inspection and intake to repair, painting, and detailing, it’s important to partner with an auto body shop that cares about your safety. Here are some of the measures we’ve implemented to enhance our safety practices.
Steam Cleaning
On top of utilizing high functioning cleaning products throughout the repair process on the surfaces of the vehicle, we have implemented a sanitizing system to steam clean all vehicles during the detailing process before returning the vehicle to the customer. Steam cleaning is also used in hospitals during the cleaning process to help rid of potential pathogens. This convenient tool adds an extra layer of safety for our customers.
Protective Covers
To ensure that we reduce any potential spread of disease during the auto repair process, we add protective covers on highly trafficked areas inside the vehicle. This includes steering wheel covers, shifter covers, and more. Adding and consistently replacing these protective covers reduces cross-contamination across our staff during different stages of the repair process.
Cleaning with Disposable Gloves
We require all staff members to wear protective nitrile disposable gloves when in contact with customer vehicles. Although wearing disposable gloves does not stop transmission when in contact with potential contaminants, it highly reduces the probability of transmitting germs due to the reduction of skin contact within the vehicle.
Consistent Vehicle Sanitizing
Throughout the repair process, when a team member has been working inside a vehicle, we require that they sanitize the surfaces each time. We use a variety of auto cleaning chemicals in our repair and detailing process, as well as approved disinfectants to kill germs on the surfaces.
Hand Sanitizing Stations and Social Distancing
Our team members have at least six feet of space within vehicle bays, and we have a variety of hand sanitizing stations throughout our office and body shop. We encourage our team members to wash their hands thoroughly and consistently throughout the day and require so before and after the handling of customer vehicles.
